The security chief for New York City Transit, Vincent Demarino, was forced to resign yesterday amid accusations of nepotism and cronyism. An investigation of the former New York Police department deputy chief is ongoing. Daily News America reports, "Two sources familiar with the investigation and DeMarino’s ouster, including a security department supervisor, said the probe includes allegations that job applicants for security department posts were not treated equally and that nepotism was rampant, resulting in friends and some relatives of security department staffers getting hired. Whistleblowers gave the IG’s office the names of relatives who were hired, including the sons of two supervisors who got jobs as property protection agents, a position responsible for guarding transit facilities, such as bus depots and rail yards."
