08/28/2014 - Russian forces have entered Ukraine in what Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko described as a “sharp aggravation” in an area filled with separatist rebels. Pro-Russia rebels have taken the coast town of Novoazovsk, potentially attempting to create a land link between rebel-held Crimea and Russia. However, Russian envoys have denied the presence of troops in Ukraine. Poroshenko has called an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council. The invasion comes just two days after Poroshenko met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to try to ease tensions between the two countries, according to USA Today. The move has already struck the Russian economy as fears grew that the U.S. and European Union will impose further sanctions on Russian businesses and individuals.
