There is a great need for fair, open and reproducible testing in the firewall market. No vendor should have to guess about what configuration might achieve a better score; similarly no enterprise customer should have to guess about what configuration is needed to protect their system the same way as was tested. There is also a need for significant enterprises to be able to drive testing requirements to meet the needs of the diverse range of enterprise customers.
The Cybersecurity Association is poised to become the leading consortium focused on testing the security capabilities and performance of firewalls, intrusion prevention systems and other similar security equipment. The CA's test plans are driven by its enterprise members, not by the vendors. The CA will provide this testing at a very reasonable cost to vendors.
The Cybersecurity Association is currently reaching out to enterprises who would like to participate in the development of the test plans. The tests that enterprise members create will be both logo programs and documentation profiles for common tasks that enterprises often need to perform. This will ultimately result in the opportunity for both large and small vendors to become Cybersecurity Association members and to test for designated logos which are specifically being preferred or required by the enterprises.
The goals of the Cybersecurity Association include creating believable and reproducible test logos for members' products, providing lots of valuable information on Cybersecurity testing, and reaching out to the press to help bring awareness of members' products. This effort is being supported by enterprises who want to help drive the test plans, large and small vendors who want more transparent and open testing.
