An Air Algerie plane carrying 116 people has crashed this morning, according to Algerian officials. The flight from Burkina Faso to Algiers disappeared from radar an hour after it took off early this morning, but there has been confusion about the timeline of events and when officials were notified of the plane’s disappearance, according to The Independent. The plane’s pilots had asked to change route because of a storm in the area, according to officials. Two French fighter jets have been deployed to try and locate the plane and there were at least 50 French citizens on board, according to an airline representative. The plane’s disappearance is just the latest in a series of tragic aviation crashes, including the Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 shot down over Ukraine, killing all 298 on board, and a TransAsia Airways plane that crashed outside of Taiwan yesterday due to bad weather, killing 48.
